St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus announce local Free Throw Champions

St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus and some of their children helping and participating at the annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship sponsored by the St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus on January 14, 2012 at Centegra HealthBridge Fitness Center in Huntley.

Several boys and girls from the Huntley area, ages 10-14, were named local champions of the 2012 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship and earned the right to compete at the district level.  St Mary of Huntley Council #11666 sponsored the competition January 14th at Centegra Health Bridge, Huntley.  All youngsters ages 10-14 were eligible to participate.

Gayle Moore was the 10-year old girls’ champion.   In the 11-year-olds’ bracket Katelyn Weidner was the girls’ champion and Conor Krohne was the boys’ champion.  Twelve-year-old winners in the girls’ and boys’ division were Morgan Clausen and Adam Horan.  The 13-year-old boys’’ division was won Michael Gawron and the fourteen-year-old boy’s champions was Ryan Mavrinac.  Each contestant was allowed 15 free throw attempts in the contests.  Ties were settled by successive rounds of five free throws per contestant until a winner emerged.

Each of these winners will compete in the district competition to be held on Saturday, February 25th at 12 noon at St. Margaret Mary Catholic School, Algonquin, with an eye toward moving on to the state and international levels.
